I was trying to think of a simple way to celebrate Harvest Time in August and think I came up with a kid friendly idea. We are going to read The Little Red Hen and other variations.
Here are some links to several different versions:
Little Red Hen: little golden book
The Little Red Hen by Byron Barton: my favorite
Little Red Hen by Barry Downard: funky photo illustrations
Little Red Hen: Flip Up Fairy Tales
The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza
The Little Red Hen Makes Soup
Cook-a-Doodle Doo: a hen is making strawberry shortcake... fantastic illustrations
The Little Green Witch: a witchy fractured fairytale
Manana Iguana: south of the border fractured fairy tale (based on a fiesta)
Here are some additional links that might interest you:
a full length lesson plan
colored sequencing cards
story board cut outs
black and white pictures to sequence into a mini book
tons of activities and printables
Hope this can help you introduce the concept of harvest to your little ones in a simple and fun matter.
I love your blog. Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas and giving hope to a mother contenplating on homeschooling. I love the Red Hen Harvest and will plan on doing it with my children!
