Blessing Before Sleep

The dark comes like a blanket
hugging us at night.
The Moon shines like the heart
providing gentle light.
The stars call forth our sparkling dreams
like waves upon the shores.
To greet the nighttime pilgrim
as we journey through sleep's door.

For trees so tall and skies so blue
for friends and family and food we thank you

Earth who gives to us this food
Sun who makes it ripe and good
Dearest Earth and dearest sun
We won't forget what you have done

Before the lighting of the mealtime candles...

From the Stars, and the Moon and the Sun,
Bringing Light and Love to everyone--
Light faries come to us,
Bring to us your golden light.

Brodie

I would like to say a blessing/prayer for Brodie before his last days on earth, so that he knows it is okay to leave when he must.

loving friend,
faithful companion
you hold a special place
in our hearts.

may your remaining days
be filled with less pain
and more peace.

may you be blessed
to live a hundred
lifetimes of happiness.

you have given of yourself
more than any companion
could ask of another.

when it is time, feel free to go
knowing that we will always
be together in our hearts.

blessed be, my friend...

*If anyone knows of another pet blessing, please post in the comments.  I looked and could not find one.*

Birthday Song

~anonymous
found in a child's seasonal treasury

In heaven shines a golden star
an angel led me from a far.
From heaven high unto the earth
and brought me to my house of birth.

Oh welcome welcome lovely day
With sunshine bright and flowers gay.
With painted birds that sing their song
and make me kind and good and strong.

Garden Prayer

Small plants, leaves and buds,
growing in the soil.
O fiery sun, may your rays of
light and warmth
bless us with abundance,
and allow these plants to blossom
with life.

by Patti Wigington

Garden Blessing

The earth is cool and dark,
and far below, new life begins.
May the soil be blessed with fertility and abundance,
with rains of life-giving water,
with the heat of the sun,
with the energy of the raw earth.
May the soil be blessed
as the womb of the land becomes full and fruitful
to bring forth the garden anew.

Ostara Blessings and Chants

Spring Fertility Chant
by: Jennifer Reif

Mother and father of all growing things
Unto my being your golden love bring
Bless this seed to fulfill its design
Of leaf and fruit, of blossom and vine

Welcome, welcome, warm fresh earth!
Today we celebrate rebirth!
Blowing wind, rising sun,
Bringing the spring to everyone!
Rabbits hopping, chicks in the nest,
Spring is the season we love the best!
Celebrate the green of the earth with me -
Happy Ostara, and blessed be!

Yule Blessings/Chants

Yule Chant

Brightly burns the Yule log tonight
Magic dances in firelight
Hold my hand and join the song
Raise the Sun King bright and strong
Dark is giving way to light
As brightly burns the Yule log tonight!
---Akasha

Yule Blessing

On this night so long, My Lady
keep me in your loving care.
I await the sunrise, My Lady
And the Sun King who will bear
Light and Warmth and Love, My Lady
As he has in years before.
So guide me to the dawn, My Lady
This Solstice Night and ever more.
---Akasha

I do not remember the site I got these from, but I have included whom I believe the author to be.

Blessing Cards for the Kiddies

In the book, the creative family, Amanda Blake Soule has her beautifully decoupaged blessings sitting in a handmade bowl on her table.  Each nigh before feasting, her family chooses a blessing and recites it together holding hands.  With the slow demise of the "family" meal, I want to begin traditions that will hopefully bring my family a step closer while providing my boys with a wonderful tradition to pass down to their own children one day.

Now, that I have found some wonderful blessings and prayers I plan to make similar cards to adorn my table as well. Here are my plans as of now. I'll let you know if there are changes made as the project unfolds.

Directions:
  • Type up each blessing/prayer on card stock or scrapbooking paper.
  • Measure the size of the largest blessing.  Cut out rectangles a bit larger than this size.  Make enough for all of the blessings you plan to create.
  • I am going to let my boys paint or use oil pastels on the rectangles if they would like.
  • Then, we will use scrapbook paper, stickers, clipart, and magazine clippings to decorate the large rectangles. Adhere the decorations to the rectangles using modge podge.
  • Finally, cut out a blessing and glue it to the center of a larger rectangular card.  Continue until all cards are finished.
Hopefully, this makes enough sense.  I will post pictures as soon as I can get my program running.  My photo computer crashed recently and lets just say I lost quite a bit.

Bedtime Blessings

May the Powers that be
Guard and guide me
As I travel and play
In the Dreamland.

May all who are dear to me
(insert names if you wish)
Dream in joy and safety.

*******************************

From all the dwells below the skies,
Let faith and hope with joy arise,
Let beauty, truth and good be sung
Through every land, by every tongue.

******************************

Lady of the Moon,
Lord of the Sun,
Protect me and mine
Now the day is done.

****************************

Thank you Great Goddess for this day
For the blessings and lessons that came my way.
May my sleep be peaceful in dreams and rest,
And tomorrow may I do my best.

***************************

As I lay snuggled in my bed
Pillow tucked beneath my head,
Maiden, bring me joyful dreams,
Mother, bring me peace serene,
Wisest Crone, watch over me
Until the light of dawn I see.

**************************

Lady Mother, touch my head,
Keep Me snug and safe in bed.
Watch and hold me through the night
Until I rise with morning's light!

Mealtime Blessings

I found a blessing I love in the book, the creative family, by amanda blake soule.  It seems like the perfect blessing to use before our Samhain feast this year.

Earth, we thank you for this food,
For rest and home and all things good,
For wind and rain and sun above,
But most of all for those we love.

Here are others I have found:

For the golden corn and the honey from the bees
For golden sun and the apples on the trees
For fruits and nuts and berries we gather on our way
We thank our loving Mother Earth we thank her everyday
Blessings on our meal [today].

*********

Blessings on the blossom
Blessings on the fruit
Blessings on the leaf and stem
Blessings on the root
Blessings on our meal [today].

*********

Blessed Be our Hearth and Home,
and our Family, wherever we Roam
Blessed Be this Food, our Feast
May we always Dwell in Love and Peace

*********

Lord and Lady, watch over us,
and bless us as we eat.
Bless this food, this bounty of earth,
we thank you, so mote it be.
