Ostara Poems Too

Wings

Come bright butterfly, close to me.
Your beautiful wings I should like to see.
You fly like a bird; you sip like a bee.
But you're really a flower the wind set free.

Winter’s End

Busy gnomes chip away
At the winter's hard ground,
So that bulbs may burst forth
And spring's beauty abound.

In the woods, damp and dark,
They must labor below.
Crooked roots and cold stones,
Pushing stalks through the snow.

Undines melt snow until
Water can flow again.
Filling the leaves growing
Green with spring rain.

Sylphs, they are dreaming
Of winds softly streaming
Through petals all yellow
And purple and blue.

Spring Shower

Rain is falling from the sky     (flutter fingers down)
Lightening flashes! Hide your eyes!     (cover eyes with hands)
Thunder rumbles in the clouds.     (drum hands on thighs)
Sometimes it is very loud.     (cover ears with hands)
When the storm is over
and puddles remain,     (shape arms into a circle)
It’s time to take off my shoes again.     (pretend to take off shoes)

Waking of Spring

When woods awake and trees are green
And leaves are large and long,
'Tis merry to walk in the forest fair
And hear the small birds' song.

We are the sunshine fairies
And with our sparks of light
We shimmer and glimmer in the air
Hugging flowers with colors so bright.

Poems for Ostara

Decorating Eggs

I take an egg
All shiny white
And then I dip
It out of sight.

I leave it there
Within the cup
Then after a minute
I pick it up.

And oh!
It's a lovely
Shade of green!
The prettiest Ostara egg
I've ever seen.

Bunnies are brown
Bunnies are white
Bunnies are always
An Ostara delight.

Bunnies are cuddly
The large and the small.
But I like chocolate ones
The best of them all.

I Had an Ostara Bunny

I had an Ostara bunny,
One day she ran away.
I looked for her by moonlight.
I looked for her by day.
I found her in the meadow
With her babies 1, 2, 3.
So now I have four rabbit pets
To run and jump with me.

Ostara Bunny
(Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)

Ostara bunny, soft and white
Hopping quickly out of sight.
Thank you for the eggs you bring
At Ostara we welcome spring.
Ostara Bunny, soft and white
Hopping quickly out of sight.

Flowers
(Sung to the tune of “Pop! Goes the Weasel”)

All around the forest ground
There’s flowers everywhere.
There’s pink, yellow, and purple too.
Here’s one for you!

My Lantern

I go outside with my lantern,
my lantern goes outside with me.
Above the stars shine so brightly,
down here on the earth shine we.
So shine my light,
in the still dark night,
a bim a la ba ma la boom!

Glitter Lantern, Glitter

Glimmer lantern glimmer,
Little stars a shimmer.
Over meadow moor and dale,
flitter, flutter elf in veil.
Pee-witt, pee-witt, tick a tick a tick,
rou-cou, rou-cou.

Glimmer lantern glimmer,
Little stars a shimmer.
Over rock and stock and stone,
Wander, tripping little gnome.
Pee-witt, pee-witt, tick a tick a tick,
rou-cou, rou-cou.

"Upon Each Samhain"

~David O. Norris

I miss you most upon each Samhain
When the boundary turns to sheer
I wait until the veil is parted
At the ending of the year.

Sweet spirit, as you walk among us
At the tolling of this eve
I see your face beyond the sunset
And hear your voice upon the breeze.

In the glowing of the candle,
From the shadow on the wall
I watch for you in every movement
And hear your footsteps in the hall.

Can you sit and spend the evening
As the portal opens wide?
Ancestral dead, I bid you welcome,
Most recent dead, I pray, abide.

When you come I sense your presence
I put my hand out in the air
A moment, then, we stand united
Palm to palm while waiting there.

I miss you most upon each Samhain
When the boundary turns to sheer
We share these hours until the dawning
Then bid farewell until next year.

Samhain Poems

Bonfires dot the rolling hillsides
Figures dance around and around
To drums that pulse out echoes of darkness
Moving to the Pagan sound.

~ Loreena McKennitt, "All Souls Night", "The Visit

Listen! The wind is rising,
And the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,
Now for October eves!

Summer's End

"Summer is ending!” the mother bear said,
“In yonder tree hollow, I’ll build me a bed.”
“Summer is ending!” said all the gold weeds,
And so, softly sighing, they scattered their seeds
“Summer is ending!” the hurricane cried,
Hurling and whirling harsh winds high and wide
“Summer is ending,” said fiery King Sun,
“My flame must grow fainter, then fade out to none!

Song of the Harvest

Elf Song

Tippety-toes, the smallest elf
Sat on a mushroom by himself.

Playing a little tinkling tune
Under the big round harvest moon.

And this is the song that Tippety made
To sing to the little tune he played:

"Red are the hips
red are the haws,
red and gold are the leaves that fall
red are the poppies in the corn
red berries on the rowan tall
red is the big round harvest moon,
and red are my new little dancing shoon."

Sunny Verse

I am the sun and I bear with my might,
the Earth by day and the Earth by night.
I hold her fast and my gifts I bestow,
to everything on her so that it may grow.

human and stone, flower and bee,
all receive their light from me.
open your heart like a little flower,
that it may shine in every hour.

open your heart dear child to me,
that we together one light may be!

Summer Sun

Great is the sun, and wide he goes
Through empty heaven with repose;
And in the blue and glowing days
More thick than rain he showers his rays.

Though closer still the blinds we pull
To keep the shady parlour cool,
Yet he will find a chink or two
To slip his golden fingers through.

The dusty attic spider-clad
He, through the keyhole, maketh glad;
And through the broken edge of tiles
Into the laddered hay-loft smiles.

Meantime his golden face around
He bares to all the garden ground,
And sheds a warm and glittering look
Among the ivy's inmost nook.

Above the hills, along the blue,
Round the bright air with footing true,
To please the child, to paint the rose,
The gardener of the World, he goes.

Birthday Song

~anonymous
found in a child's seasonal treasury

In heaven shines a golden star
an angel led me from a far.
From heaven high unto the earth
and brought me to my house of birth.

Oh welcome welcome lovely day
With sunshine bright and flowers gay.
With painted birds that sing their song
and make me kind and good and strong.

Sometimes

Sometimes
the world comes to me in shapes and colors
I do not understand,
moving me in circles inside my heart
until I am left feeling lost and separated from the gift of love
bathed in pure sadness.

It is then I run into the forest to rest, shed my weariness, and
listen to the "song of my breath."

Each spec of nature comes to me
bringing lost pieces of my soul
until at last; wings are formed around the last hint of
darkness inside of me
and it is carried away.

Her song has blended with my being
and our spirits roll in peace.

Beltane Poems for the Littlest Pagans

A May Basket

Up the steps
1, 2, 3, 4.
I'll ring the bell on your front door.
I'll leave a May basket just for fun.
I'll turn around and run, run, run!

~ Cindy

Hurray for Beltane
tune: London Bridges

Beltane's here with sun so bright,
sun so bright, sun so bright.
Beltane's here with sun so bright.
Hurray for Beltane!

Beltane's here with flowers in bloom,
flowers in bloom, flowers in bloom.
Beltane's here with flowers in bloom.
Hurray for Beltane!

A Child's Beltane Poem

The sun comes up
The sky turns blue
Put on your clothes
There's lots to do.

Run out the door
And smell the air
The grass is wet
But we don't care!

Pick flowers to crown
Our new May Queen
Dance in a circle
Laugh and sing

Run and play
We've had such fun,
We're sorry when
The day is done.

Sit on the hill
Turn out the light
Watch the fires
On Beltane Night

All Hallows Eve

I am a kindergarten teacher as most of you know.  The other night while trying to go to sleep and thinking about the upcoming holiday I began to think of a story and had to write it down.  This is exactly as I wrote it... I was still definitely in that slumber land state of semi-consciousness.

On All Hallows Eve
as most of us know,
the veil between worlds
grows thin, so we're told.

The Lord
in the Summerland...
The Lady on Earth...
search for a door
in the light of the hearth.

As the door doth appear,
both sigh a relief
and commune once again
and have a big feast.

New memories are made
and old ones remembered
as all of our loved ones
have gathered together.

As the sun does rise
on the New Year again,
give thanks
for your family, your loved ones, and friends.

Happy Samhain!
